Estonia @ Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) 2014

The “Research in Estonia” initiative participated at the Europe’s largest interdisciplinary science meeting „Euroscience Open Forum“ which took place in Copenhagen on June 21-26, 2014. We provided Information about research opportunities in Estonia and showcased some of the highlights of Estonian research in the exhibition area.

The “Research in Estonia” initiative participated at the Europe’s largest interdisciplinary science meeting „Euroscience Open Forum“ which took place in Copenhagen on June 21-26, 2014. We provided Information about research opportunities in Estonia and showcased some of the highlights of Estonian research in the exhibition area.

Research in Estonia Featured Stories booklet

We presented:
• a cute yellow-faced and highly maneuverable robot turtle U-CAT born in the Centre for Biorobotics at Tallinn University of Technology;
• an innovative city development tool CUDA developed in cooperation with the University of Tartu, Tartu Observatory and the Software Technology and Applications Competence Center;
• the first Estonian satellite ESTCube-1 developed in cooperation with Tartu University, Estonian Aviation Academy, Tallinn University of Technology and University of Life Sciences;
• a cutting edge data processing system Sharemind developed in cooperation with Cybernetica AS, University of Tartu, the Software Technology and Applications Competence Center and The Estonian Education and Research Network EEnet.

In addition, two researchers from the Tallinn Univeristy of Technology were speakers at the ESOF’s science programme.  Namely prof. Maarja Kruusmaa (“Robotics for next – generation ocean science” on June 23)  and prof. Robert Krimmer (“Democracy in the digital age: computational aspects of voting systems“ on June 23).

It was a great opportunity for us to engage with science journalists, researchers and government officials from all over Europe. We thank everybody who stopped at our booth! Until next ESOF in Manchester!
