The exhibition area at Europe’s biggest science meeting EuroScience Open Forum, on July 9-14 in Toulouse, France, will present Estonia’s research achievements in the fields of smart environment, e-health and cyber security. For the first time, Estonia will also host a session in the Science to Business programme discussing the possibilities of personalised medicine with the Estonian Minister of Health and Labour Riina Sikkut.
This year is Estonia’s first time to host a session in the Science to Business programme. The session on July 13 will examine how personalised medicine, which incorporates the results of genetic analyses, can drastically improve the health and life expectancy of people in the future.
“Our prior experience at Europe’s biggest science forum proves that it is an excellent opportunity for getting new contacts for both researchers and entrepreneurs and for showcasing the outstanding work of Estonian researchers. This time, for the centennial of our state, we are arranging a session on the topic of personalised medicine, which has developed in a way we can be very proud of,” said Karin Jaanson, Executive Director of the Estonian Research Council, commenting on the necessity of participating in the science forum. It is also significant that professor Andres Metspalu, a prominent Estonian geneticist, has been elected as the Head of the Programme Committee of Europe’s biggest science forum.
The “SmartEST research country” exhibition team on the ESOF exhibition area is made up of Kristjan Metsalu (Estonian Genome Center), Ehsan Ebrahimi (University of Tartu Institute of Computer Science), Laura Altin (University of Tartu and Positium LBS) and Liis Livin and Reimo Rehkli as representatives of the Estonian Research Council.
ESOF (www.esof.eu) brings together thousands of researchers, entrepreneurs, officials, politicians, research administrators and science journalists from all over the world. The programme features cutting edge science reports, seminars, workshops, debates, an exhibition area and much more.
Estonia’s participation in the ESOF is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. Estonia’s participation is organized by the Estonian Research Council’s initiative Research in Estonia through funding the European Regional Development Fund.
